Artist’s Statement

I create because of an endless need to do so.  Painting gives me extreme pleasure.  When I paint, time stands still and a need within me is satisfied.  To paraphrase Emerson, “To create, to create, is evidence of the Divine.”  God instilled creativity within me, so I paint.

       My goal is to be an accomplished oil painter whose work is both impressionistic and painterly. My subjects speak to me emotionally; they include the classics: portraits, still life, and landscapes.  Nature is exceedingly beautiful to me; the play of light and shadow is endlessly intriguing to me.  I work to capture the light: as it illuminates the side of a human face, reflects on still water, or as it dances at an angle across the trees in a forest…..  I have to paint!
